You try to access the User Interface by 'http://storage' or by the IP Address and the web browser gives you the error it cannot find the specified server.

1. Your router is unable to assign a DHCP address to the Simple NAS, resulting in the Simple NAS to default to 169.254.0.1 address.

2. There is a faulty connection between the NAS and the router, usually by a loose network cable connection.

3. The NAS is on a different IP Scheme that your computer, due to previous setup or difference in a Wireless Access Point and Wired Router.

Check the Link/LAN light first on the back of the NAS. This light should be lit green. If not, try replacing the cable or checking to make sure you have a solid connection in the cable.

If you have a solid green light, please continue with these further steps.

To resolve the issue, we must temporarily set the computer with a static IP and manually give the NAS an IP Address that matches your network.

Configure Windows For a Direct Connection

1. Click on Start -> Run and type 'command' then click OK.
2. In the Command Prompt dialog box, type 'ipconfig' and press enter.
3. Record the following information for your proper network adapter (usually Local Area Connection):
     a. IP Address
     b. Subnet Mask
     c. Default Gateway
4. Exit the command prompt and click on Start -> Control Panel. Open up "Network Connections."
5. Right click on "Local Area Connection" (Note: This may differ from your setup if you have changed it) and click 'Properties.'
6. Highlight "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and click the 'Properties' button.
7. On the "General" tab, choose "Use the following IP Address:" (Note: If you already have information filled in these boxes, record that information first and then proceed.)
8. Type in the following information:
     a. IP Address: 169.254.0.50
     b. Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
     c. Default Gateway : leave blank
Press "OK" and "OK" again to apply the changes.

Go to "Configuring the NAS" Section

Configure the Mac OS X For a Direct Connection

1. In System Preferences, open up "Network."
2. Choose "Built-in-Ethernet" from the Show pop-up menu.
3. In the TCP/IP pane, "Configure IPv4" should be set to "DHCP." Below that, it should show you the current IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Router. Write down the following from this screen:
     a. IP Address
     b. Subnet Mask
     c. Router
4. Choose "Manually" for "Configure IPv4." (Note: If already set as Manually, record the entries for future reference).
5. Type in the following information:
     a. IP Address: 169.254.0.50
     b. Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
     c. Default Gateway : leave blank
Press "OK" and "OK" again to apply the changes.

Go to "Configuring the NAS" Section

Configuring the NAS For Your Network

1. Connect the Simple NAS network cable directly to your computer. Restart the Simple NAS.
2. Open your web browser and type 'http://169.254.0.1' and press enter.
3. You should now be presented with a logon box. Logon to the NAS using the default username and password (unless you changed it previously).
4. In the NAS UI, click on the "IP Configuration" menu item.
5. Under 'IP Config,' choose "Static IP as below." Type in the following information:
     a. IP: The first three sets of digits you gathered in Step 3a. For the last set of digits, choose a high number, preferably 252. That is, if you recorded 192.168.1.100, type in 192.168.1.252. Record this IP Address as it is the address you will be using to access the user interface!
     b. Subnet Mask: The exact same number you recorded in Step 3b.
     c. Gateway: The exact same number you recorded in Step 3c.
     d. Primary DNS: The exact same number you recorded in Step 3c.
     e. Secondary DNS: The exact same number you recorded in Step 3c.
6. Click the "Apply" button and click "OK" to the next dialog box.
7. Connect the Simple NAS and computer back up to the network as you originally had it.
8. Go back and change your network settings on your computer back to DHCP or "Obtain an IP Address Automatically" (or your original settings).
9. You should now be able to connect to the Simple NAS User Interface by using the IP address you entered in Step 5a.

If the above steps do not work, re-check all of your connections and settings and try again, or try from another computer if possible. If it still does not work, contact TRITTON Support for further help.
