The Warp Drive aluminum enclosure is designed to dissipate the internal heat. Thus, the outside of the enclosure may have a higher temperature rating than the inside.
TRITTON has performed many tests on the enclosure with various hard drive manufacturers and capacities. The average highest temperature of the internal HD components reached was 45 degrees Celsius (113 degrees Fahrenheit) over a time period of 24 hours. Our tests also show that the aluminum casing helps to decrease the ambient temperature of the hard disk; that is why the case will feel warm or hot to the touch.
Most hard drives operating temperature are within 55-65 degrees Celsius (131 degrees Fahrenheit). Please check your hard drive documentation for its operating temperature.
Currently, the Warp Drive does not automatically power down the hard disk after an extended amount of time. However, TRITTON has recognized the concern of this and will implement this feature into future revisions of the Warp Drive.
