How to Update the Firmware....

  • Can I add users to the WNAS?
  • No. The level of access to the shared folders is determined by the password. You can assign each folder its own "Full Access," "Read Only," and/or "Read/Write" access. Note that if "Full Access" is selected, "Read Only" and "Read/Write" access options will not be available.
  • What is the average transfer speed of the WNAS?
  • The average transfer speed of the WNAS is 22Mbps.
  • How many users can read/write to the WNAS at once.
  • There is no hard-coded limitation on the amount of simultaneous read/writes. However, the WNAS was designed for SOHO use. More than twenty users is not recommended.
  • Does the WNAS require any third party software to be loaded on the clients?
  • No. All you need is a network connection to the WNAS and you can then access all the features of the WNAS.
  • Does the WNAS come with any defrag or scandisk utilities?
  • Yes. These utilities are run during startup of the device and cannot be initiated by the user. Any errors will be reported in the interface of the WNAS.
  • Where do I find the serial number of the WNAS?
  • The serial number is on the back of the unit. It begins with the letter RM.
  • Can I setup the WNAS as a node on my existing wireless network?
  • This is not a current feature of the WNAS, however we are currently looking into adding this a feature to the Wireless NAS.
  • Will the WNAS support WAP encryption?
  • Yes. This feature has been added through a firmare update, version 02.04.16. You can download it below in the Downloads section.
  • Will the WNAS support FTP?
  • Yes. This feature has been added through a firmare update, version 02.04.16. You can download it below in the Downloads section.
  • Will the WNAS support UPnP Audio-Video for media servers such as the D-Link Media Lounge?
  • This is a feature we hope to have implemented in a future firmware update. Once it has passed our testing, we will release it.
  • Can the NAS support "Turbo-G" or "Super-G" speeds?
  • No. Turbo-G or Super-G speeds (up to 108Mbps, depending on the vendor) is a vendor specific specification. These are not industry standards; instead they are a proprietary way developed by each vendor to increase the bandwidth through all channels on the 802.11g spectrum. This also means that one vendors Super-G will not reliably work with another vendors version of it.

  • Check the direction of the antenna . Check to make sure there is no interference from any electrical equipment (microwaves, some TVs, etc). For best performance, the WNAS should be placed in an open area. You can also point the antenna in the direction of your computers for stronger signal strength. Periodic signal drops or decrease in signal strength usually means your WNAS is experiencing interference or the distance is maxed out.
  • Turn the WNAS off. Then, unplug the WNAS and wait about 5 minutes before plugging it back in. Turn it on and wait to see if the red light goes out. It may take as long as 10 minutes for it to go out.
  • Reset the WNAS. Hold the reset button on the back of the unit in until the red tool light on the front comes on. Release the button and wait for the light to go out before trying again.
  • Ping the WNAS. Open up a command prompt and ping the WNAS. You should be able to ping it by 'ping unas' or 'ping 192.168.1.200,' assuming you left the defaults as is.
